Man dies after World Cup bet wins him free drinks
A man drank himself to death after a World Cup bet with a pub landlord won
him free drinks for an hour.
Two Danish friends bet on England to beat Denmark during the match and would
have worked for free behind the bar if they had lost.
Michael Nielsen returned to the pub in Arhus this week with Per Simonsen and
drank 47 drinks of spirits in an hour.
The 34-year-old said he needed to lie down a short time after the session
finished and complained of breathing difficulties.
Doctors say he was blue in the face when they saw him and had drunk the
equivalent of a litre of pure alcohol.
Mr Simonsen said Mr Nielsen was also sick several times, but seemed OK when
he left him lying on a bench to sleep.
He was later found unconscious and taken to hospital where he died several
hours later, reports the Ekstra Bladet newspaper.
Mr Simonsen, 42, who can't remember how much he drank at The White Horse
pub, said: "I woke up the next morning, he did not. I am sad and somewhere I
feel guilty."

Some amazing news from the paper I hate most in Singapore. Had previous experieice with them that they don know what the rubbish they are talking about one. Called it a tabloid as they have have on previous occcasions warped facts to make their stories more sensational, and when I wrote to them, the reporter (on my case), Eugene Wee did not dare to reply.
Anyway, just take what they say with a pinch of salt.
They are just short of habing a page 3 girl or a centerfold gal to becoming a full tabloid, but since Singaore bans anyone without a top, guess that will never happen, so they can still claim to be a decent newspaper...
To think I used to buy them everyday when I was younger.
What a fool and simpleton I used to be back then when I trusted their every word.
THe Singapore Tabloid FREAK ACCIDENT AT WOODLANDS
These swinging gates crushed boy's private parts
BY GENEVIEVE JIANG
Jun 19, 2002
HIS shorts were drenched in blood.
And the five-year-old couldn't stop screaming.
What started out as a regular day at the playground took a horrible turn when little Muhammad Hail Haziq Haszren accidentally got himself caught between playground gates that swung shut.
His penis was crushed and badly bruised.
His mother, Madam Noraini Ahmad, 29, a housewife, told The New Paper: "I was carrying my four-month-old baby girl when the accident happened and I could do nothing to stop it.
"Haziq was playing with his other sister and trying to keep her from coming out of the playground so he shut the gates.
"In his hurry, he trapped himself."
The incident happened at a playground beside Block 768, Woodlands Avenue 6, around 10.15am on June 10.

First COX, then COX1 and COX2 then they say meybe COX3...
Now ACE1, then ACE2.......
Warrow. Stop making life so complicating can?
My Useless fact of the day....
Researchers have identified a protein that is important in heart function. Mice lacking it have weak, infrequent heart beats by middle age, but no obvious physical defects.
The protein, called angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), might also link lifestyle and health. Rats with low levels of the protein develop high blood pressure on a high-salt diet.
"We don't know how it's working exactly," says Josef Penninger of the University of Toronto in Canada, whose team made the findings. "But our mice look like humans with coronary heart disease."
Penninger plans to see if levels of ACE2 in humans can predict blood pressure or heart problems.
His team has also tracked down the gene that encodes ACE2 to an area of the rat's X chromosome. In humans, there is some variation in this region, suggesting that genetic tests might identify risks of cardiovascular illness.
The gene's location on the X chromosome might even explain why women - who have two copies - get less heart disease, says Brenda Leckie, who studies heart disease at the University of Leicester. But this is "a very long shot", she adds.
Pressure point
The job of ACE2 is probably to lower blood pressure. It controls the body's levels of a small protein, angiotensin II, which raises blood pressure by making blood vessels constrict. ACE2 chops a bit off angiotensin II, creating a protein that lowers blood pressure. It does the same thing to the molecule from which angiotensin II is made, inactivating it.
But finding that ACE2 has a link to heart disease is a surprise, says kidney specialist Kenneth Bernstein of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. "It implies that there are aspects of heart disease and function that we don't know about," he says.
Penninger's team suggests that mice without ACE2 are poorly because their angiotensin II reaches toxic levels. Bernstein thinks that this is unproven.
ACE2 is related to another enzyme called ACE, which makes angiotensin II, raising blood pressure. Drugs that block ACE are used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease. But, because ACE is found throughout the body, these drugs can have side effects.
The ACE2 gene is switched on only in the heart and kidneys, so targeting it might have fewer negative consequences, says Penninger.
Recurrent Deaths in ITU
There was this case in this hospital's Intensive Care ward where patients
always died in the same bed and on Friday mornings regardless of their age,
gender, medical history or medical conditions.
This puzzled the doctors and some even thought that it had to do with the
supernatural.
Why the death at that same bed on Fridays?
So the doctors decide to go down to that particular ward to investigate the
cause of the incidents....
Come Friday morning, everyone at the hospital ward nervously waited for the
terrible phenomenon to occur again. The new, unknowing patient laid
there..... Some doctors holding wooden crosses, prayer books and other holy
objects to ward off evils.........waiting....the patient was resting still.
then 8am......
8:30am........
Just before the 'cursed' time...... the door to the ward swung open......
Then Ah Soh, the part-time Friday cleaner, comes in and unplugs the life
support system so that she can use the vacuum cleaner.
I bo liao..
so go and search on BBC website.
Here is what they say about my hometown....
BBC News | COUNTRY PROFILES | Country profile: Singapore
The country comprises the main island - linked by a causeway to the southern tip of Malaysia - and around 50 smaller islands.
Once a colonial outpost, Singapore has developed into one of the world's most prosperous places - with glittering skyscrapers and a thriving port.
The vast majority of the island's population lives in public-housing tower blocks.
The citizens enjoy one of the world's highest standards of living, but also a system of punishments for acts such as busking without a license or not flushing a public lavatory.
Government-led initiatives encourage Singaporeans to have more babies, be more courteous to each other, and "Speak Good English".
Chinese make up more than 75% of the community, along with Malays and Indians. Singapore also has a large number of foreign workers.
Although a multiparty nation, the People's Action Party (PAP) has been the dominant political force since independence.
Singapore is often referred to a one of Asia's "economic tigers", although it slipped into recession after the 1998 Asian markets crisis.
The country was referred to - less kindly - by the writer William Gibson as "Disneyland with the death penalty".

Scientists conquer laser beam teleportation
Scientists in Canberra have successfully teleported a laser beam for the
first time in Australia.
Teleportation is usually found in science fiction programs like Star Trek,
but a team of researchers from the Australian National University (ANU) has
carried out a successful teleportation experiment in a gravitational wave
lab.
Team leader Dr Ping Koy Lam says it involved creating a laser beam, its
disembodiment and the recreation of the original beam in a different
location.
Dr Lam says the experiment involved laser light which is made up of photons
which are quite different from any solid material.
"At the moment physicists are still puzzling over how to actually do it with
a solid material, so we have to start with an atom," he said.
The discovery has applications for the development of quantum computers and
telecommunications.

Eh, this is a little too expensive to buy, but have heard my professor talk about this before. Apparently they got black death totally wrong and supposed to have been the rate that it was spreading that made it impossiable to be transmitted by the lice or ticks or whatever you call it for i cannot remember on the rats.
Anysways, me thing that the black death is more unlikely than anything to reoccur in our time, the more dangerous one is sitll the common Flu. We waiting for the next pandemic remember?
If another one like the 1918 one hits us, goodness what will be the death toll be like? That time it took 20 million, this time how many will it take? In excess of 160 million, considering that now we have over 6 billion people in this overcrowded planet.
Tell you what, when that hits, go and buy shares in GSK and Roche and meybe the undertaker companies. Cant gurantee that you will live through it, but if you do, you should be a rich man....
New Scientist
The Black Death Transformed: Disease and culture in early Renaissance Europe
Samuel Cohn
£50/$65 Edward Arnold/Oxford
OLD theories do not die simply because they are disproved. They die only when those who cling to them die--or so philosophers of science have argued. How nice, then, to read books that defy their gloomy prediction. Last year, two epidemiologists argued persuasively that Europe's medieval Black Death could not have been bubonic plague carried by rats, the popular theory since early last century (New Scientist, 24 November 2001, p 34). Now historian Samuel Cohn, using many new sources and completely different methods, has reached exactly the same conclusion.
His book is a fascinating account of what those struck by the great pestilence had to say about it: how the disease evolved; how squabbling biologists concocted the bubonic theory; and the inconvenient facts they and their apologists steadfastly ignored, including evidence that unlike bubonic plague, the Black Death induced immunity.
Why is this important? The epidemiologists think we need to understand the Black Death in case it returns. The historian just wants to set the record straight. That's partly because he sees, in the gradual waning of the plague's deadliness, one source of the humanistic confidence that led to the Renaissance. An ambitious leap, but one fit to accompany the sound of old theories crashing down.

COPING WITH EXAMS Organising your space
Most people preparing for exams know they should organise their time - and we come to this in the next section - but fewer people know that it helps to organise their space too.
Think about where you work. See if you can separate out the places where you work from the places where you relax. Even if this all happens within one small room, create a 'working place' (around a desk/table?) which contains your papers, books, etc. and everything you need for your work.
Move all distractions out of your work area - pictures, music, TV - and put these into your 'relaxation areas'. Similarly, keep work out of the latter, so that when you are relaxing or sleeping your working is not intruding into this space.
Get used to working when you are in your work area, and 'switching off' when you get up from this place. Creating a physical separation of this kind will help you to do the same mentally.
This explains it.
I sit in front of lappie and work.
No wonder no work
Oh look! Was trying to download instructions about my Part II and this came up on the top of the page, before the part when you download stuff...

Yeah! The paper today was not that bad after all, but there were some parts that were just that close... Can remember reading about it but cannot exactly remember the name. The paper was not that fair too. There was quite a fair bit stuff that was never taught and had to go by guess work and I don particularly like EMQ.
Realise that the blogs of others that I read are also slowing down. Hiak, everyone must be runing out of stuff to write about or stupid tests to take, or is it just exams? I am also losing steam liao. Notice that the comments are no longer coming in. Hiya, sometimes also don know why I bother to write. I suppose that a few of you reading this will know the reason and yeah, just following on something that someone used to do.
Anyway, will attempt to put my own pictures into the blog. See if it works. Then MAYBE someone will ask her friends to come and look see look see.
Anyways for those of you who know the current MacDonald promotion of the card thingie with football worldcup I got a red card!!!
YEAH!!! you think, but look at it. Honestly what are my chances of winning?
China? Er... Warrow. Don say I biased, but eh... I just don see it happening from the way they play compared to some of the other teams lor. Think I will just use it to claim my Big Mac.
Oh ya if this picture things works, I will add in more.
May today there be peace within you
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be....

Went to the Neal Street Restruant in Covent Garden last night.
Positively the worst Italian food that I have ever eaten.
It was terrible and so expensive and the waiter actually put in a nearly 10 pound tip for himself on the visa bill when it came! Can you imagine that? And the service was quite bad too. and guess what?
It was nearly 100 pounds for 3 persons!
Cant imagine having to pay so much for such terrible food and service.
Even the pasta i cook at home with the stir in pasta sauce tasted better, and it will not even cost me the 10 punds of tips.
After that we tried to catch the jubilee celebrations.
We were told that the fireworks will come at 10.
Waited until 11.15, there were still no fireworks.
Well Done!
Then took the District Line from Westminister to mile end.
London underground, Wonderful as usual.
The stupid train decided that it did not want to travel to Barking as supposed to. It decided to stop at tower hill.
So how? Get off at monument to take the circle line to liverpool street lor.
Wait Wait and Wait, then the circle line came.
Fine, but halfway through, the IDIOTS messed up the tracks and the train was heading for Whitechapel.
Okay, fine, we will go to Whitechapel and then transfer to Hammersmith and City to Mile End.
NOOOOOO!!!!
At Whitechapel, there was no eastbound train. Fools!
What?
Then we had to bloody walk 2 Km to mile end from Whitechapel.
Finally got home at 2 after walking my friend home to Mile End and then back to my place between whitechapel and Stepney Green.
Three Cheers to the London Transport system.
Never ever work without cocking up.
This morning, send friend off to a tour to Warwick and Oxford.
Thanks to the big party for the Queen, the dammed tour was cancelled.
AND NO ONE FORM THE DAMMED TOUR COMPANY decided to call us to tell us that it was cancelled.
"Oh yes, we are open on jubilee tuesday too" was what i got when i booked the tour.
Both their office and information counter at Victoria was closed when my friend turned up this morning.
Wasted money on the phone calls to and fro, thinking that he was lost.
Called the stupids and they dare to accuse me of not leaving a contact number.
Ya right, 2 hp numbers and one e-mail was not a contact detail at all.
IDIOTS!
Oh ya, and to irritate me off more,
A stupid teddy bear company that i once bought something to decided to send me viruses via their mailing list.
Beverly Hills Teddy Bear Company Not enough that they made money from me, Must still kill my comp.
Now you guys who keep asking me why i hate London know why now?
1) Transport doesn't work.
2) Obnoxious pigs who cant cook for nuts overcharging me and self tipping.
3) First to pass on the blame when they mess it up.

Hey, here is an article that I wanted to share.
A friend of mine wrote it and I thought it was really good.
Munday (Mundane Monday)
Monday was the day for which weariness and lassitude was created. The entire world lost its sense of wonder the minute three discordant alarm clocks nagged me awake, gaining victory with their irritating stamina and cacophony. Monday mornings were tailored for rushing about, desperately packing my “PILOT G2s”, half done Trigonometry tutorials and stacks of lecture notes strewn all across the table. God’s beautiful little creatures tried to cheer me on in the race against time with their dulcet chirping but were met with limited success.
The district came alive on Monday: a myriad of girls and boys chatting happily and ebulliently while waiting for the school bus; accompanying mothers and maids listing the best places to shop for the cheapest groceries and freshest poultry; sloppily dressed students dispersed at various segments of the road, anxiously waving to oblivious cab drivers; permutations of the working class hastily entering the red train gates. The trains clattered more loudly than usual, as if complaining of their load full of heavy commuters. It didn’t take long before the buses added to the dissonance: the interrupted roars of the motor engine, accelerating, screeching, braking, accelerating, screeching, braking. After each bus zoomed past with its trail of dust and fumes, you could hear the diminishing rattle of the exhaust and finally, the renewed sound of laughing, gossiping and talking.
It was the day of rapidly devouring breakfast; of scalding my tongue with the hot cocoa; of kissing my folks goodbye as I rushed out the front gate; of racing down the garden path, taking care not to step on Baby and Rascal (my Jack Russells) inadvertently; of huffing and puffing as I sprinted down Mt Sinai Road; of reaching the parade square just in time for the last bell; of singing the school song after the conformist national anthem with beads of perspiration accumulating behind those waterproof, fire-resistant uniforms; of discussing tutorials with precocious amateur Einsteins and erudite Shakespeares and getting mesmerised and stupefied in awe at their wonderful treasury of knowledge; of exasperated teachers lecturing their sedentary classes composed of frivolous picnickers, soporific sleepers and vociferous fishmongers; of gleeful ravenous students scrambling down the creaking stairs to join the Yong Tau Foo queue. Mondays, it seemed, were always bustling with activity, and always scorching.
I loathed school, which seemed like an endless, inane battle to stay awake during insipid lessons, without seeing how “King’s theory of pedimentation” could have any practical application to my daily routine and future career; I loathed the ringing bells which haunted me to be conscripted for yet another tedious battle; I loathed the teachers with their asinine, corny jokes which tickled no one but themselves; I loathed my classmates, who childishly flaunt their ostentatious possessions, frequently skipped school and copied my scrupulous notes and assignments; I loathed the insuperably awful school meals and the blue gate which separated us from the food paradise a hundred metres away; I loathed the deathly silence and glacial atmosphere in the library; I loathed the afternoon physical education lessons, which only served to fully deplete the remnants of my energy under that blazing hot sun. But most of all, I loathed what we were doing in school, which was learning to grow up; and doing what both you and me did most, which was wait for Tuesday.

Just got my housemate to do the test. He's been running around the house hitting the walls and all that and I can actually feel the house shaking. Cant blame him though. This house is like 50 odd years old and half made of wood. Can you imagine that? Goodness, its comming apart and I still have to pay 90 pounds of rent. Cant wait to get out of here!
Here is his results...
ha ha ha
He'll never bother to see my blog, so its okay to poke fun of him here..
